‘Kollagen är skräp jag hittat på marken och samlat på mig över senaste 3 åren. Jag vill hitta loggan i grunden av slumpen som får mig att uppmärksamma skräpet och framhäva de ansikten och symboler jag ser när jag sammansätter min samling. Jag letar efter de ikoner i mitt undermedvetna som får min hand att agera. Min konst är en övning i att skildra och väcka dessa (moderna runor) som väcker min känsla.’
Benjamin Reichwald is a multi-disciplinary artist who has been active in the field of visual arts since a very young age. Over the years he has been involved in a large number of creative projects and has often used his graphic art in conjunction with his own and others’ works. His graphic designs have been incorporated into fashion design, album art, video editing, promotional material and much more. A discernible visual aesthetic influenced by the work of Reichwald and his close collaborators has taken shape over time. This aesthetic has become a prolific pop- cultural phenomenon which is inspiring a new generation of young creatives and is being embraced and enjoyed by thousands of young fans around the world.
In the last few years Reichwald has turned some of his artistic vision towards creating physical pieces of art at an art studio in his hometown of Stockholm. He works with acrylic paints, oil paints, markers and other techniques. As a part of Elak Yxa Reichwald has created a suite of five works which utilise collage techniques in a joyful and humorous way.
Previously, Benjamin Reichwald has held two well-attended exhibitions. The first; a solo exhibition at The Residence Gallery in London in 2021 (‘Real Sprin9’) and the other; a collaborative exhibition together with Jonas Rönnberg at The Hole in New York in 2023 (‘Fucked For Life’). Reichwald has recently participated in three group exhibitions; ‘Ugly Painting’ at Nahmad Contemporary in New York, ‘Just Like Heaven by Marc Jacobs’ at CONTROL Gallery in Los Angeles and ‘eXistenZ’ at Bio Gallery in Seoul. Benjamin Reichwald’s 'Elak Yxa’ at Censorship Bureau marks the first solo exhibition of his visual art in Sweden.
